Carbon 1 MK II – First phone in the world with a carbon fiber monocoque!

Carbon fiber is one of the most precious discoveries of the century. It is now extensively used in electronic and automobile industries for it’s excellent properties. But when it comes to using Carbon fiber in smartphones, there is a very big downside- It blocks radio waves. That is why we don’t see it being used in smartphones. But the Carbon mobile team have spent many years working on this issue and it seems they have cracked it. Their latest smartphone the Carbon 1 MK II is the world’s first smartphone with a carbon fiber monocoque. Monocoque means the the external shell is providing the structural integrity in the absence of a frame.

Carbonmobile is a company based in Germany. They are very proud to announce their product, the Carbon 1 MK II. The use of carbon fiber as a monocoque have made this phone very light and thin. It weighs only 125g and 6.3mm thin. Their technology is called HyRECM technology – Hybrid Radio Enabled Composite Material. They have spent more than four years in Research and development before they made a consumer grade smartphone. They source very high quality carbon fibers from Germany with a composite material. This composite material allows the radio waves to pass through.

At the starting point in 2017, it took 3 hours to create a carbon fiber shell. But now hey have innovated to a cutting edge technology that can produce the shell in 30 minutes. But it involves advanced engineering and during the molding process. All the components of the smartphone are attached to the carbon fiber itself. Plastic makes only less than 5% of the products used in the construction of this smartphone. This allows for a reduced plastic waste when recycling of the smartphone which in turn creates a greener tomorrow.

The Carbon 1 MK II will have a 6″ AMOLED display with a FHD+ resolution (18:9) aspect ratio. This phone also used the thinnest panel of the Gorilla Glass Victus till date measuring only 0.4mm. The phone will be launching with android 10 as the operating system with a promised upgrade to android 11 shortly after the launch. The chipset used here is the mediatek Helio P90 with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. There will be option for expandable memory using a micro SD card slot as well. The 3000 mAh battery comes with fast charging with upto 50% in 30 minutes. The camera setup at the back is a dual 16MP unit and a 20MP selfie shooter. The phone can be ordered starting from today from their official website. This phone is currently retailing at €800.
