The Galaxy M12 was unveiled a month ago and now we have a confirmation on Indian launch of the device. The amazon page is already live now and the product unveil is listed to be on March 11, at 12 noon. We do not have an idea on the price of the phone, however the Galaxy M11 was launched at INR 15000 ( now down to INR 11000). So we can expect a similar pricing scheme for the M12 as well. The listing only displays the 4Gb/64Gb variant of the device. The base variant 3Gb/32Gb is not listed currently.
The Indian listing of the device is to have a 6.5″ LCD panel with a 90Hz refresh rate and HD+ resolution(720p). A display with this kind of high refresh rate is awesome to be seen on an M series Samsung device. Samsung calls it the Infinity – V display, the one with a V – shaped notch for housing the selfie camera. The chipset that drives the M12 is Samsung’s in house Exynos 850, which is an 8mm processor. So we can expect relatively high performance with more battery efficiency. And speaking of the battery that powers the M12, it is 6000 mAh with 15W charging, which is pretty awesome. We can expect a 2 day battery life with moderate usage which is perfect for the Indian midrange smartphone market.
The Galaxy M12 features a quad camera setup with a 48MP ISOCELL primary sensor (ISOCELL is the in house brand of image sensors which is manufactured by Samsung itself). The second sensor will be an ultrawide unit with a 5MP resolution. More details about the other two cameras are not available currently, but we can expect a depth sensor and a macro unit at this price point. A telephoto sensor would be an ‘Icing on the Cake’, but we do not expect that to happen. And for the body and built, we have a glass front and plastic back with a plastic frame. The slightly textured finish on the back will help offer a better grip and feel in hand while holding.
The selfie camera is an 8MP unit which is an okay-ish, but we have expandable storage with a Micro SDXC card slot. For other features, there is a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for security. There is a USB Type-C 2.0 jack for charging and data transfer. The colors available at launch will be Black, Light blue and Green. We can expect more colors shortly after launch. A red offering would be nice if Samsung provides it. Check us back next week for the pricing and availability details.
