With major announcements and a lineup of next-generation flagship releases, 2024 got underway. From Vivo to OnePlus, a number of significant smartphone manufacturers are introducing their newest flagship models. Even after launching the new Galaxy S24 series, everyone is watching with interest to see what rival Apple will unveil next. Following the release of the iPhone 15 series by Apple last year, the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup is anticipated to feature a number of noteworthy improvements, including larger screens, improved cameras, quicker processors, new buttons, and artificial intelligence (AI) advancements.

Display improvements for the iPhone 16

The Pro models’ display size is anticipated to be one of the most prominent changes brought about by the upcoming iPhone 16 series. The anticipated display sizes for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are 6.9 inches and 6.3 inches, respectively, and 6.7 and 6.9 inches for the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 Pro, respectively, and the iPhone 15 Pro. Due to this, the iPhone 16 Pro models will have a new aspect ratio of 16.6:9 instead of the existing 19.5:9, making them the largest iPhones ever.

Conversely, it is reported that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will keep their 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch displays, respectively, just like the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. They might also receive some display improvements, like ProMotion support, which allows for adaptive refresh rates of up to 120Hz for more fluid gaming and scrolling. Previously, ProMotion was limited to the iPhone 15 Pro models.

iPhone 16 storage enhancement

The 64GB, 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB storage options for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, and 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, may be available on the iPhone 16 series. To meet the growing demand for more storage space, some analysts believe Apple plans to raise the base storage to 128GB for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, and to 256GB for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.

iPhone 16 camera improvements

Regarding the camera, rumours indicate that the iPhone 16 series will probably come with some upgrades, including improved low-light performance, a larger zoom range, and the ability to record spatial video. Three lenses will be included in the camera systems of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max: a wide-angle lens, a telephoto lens, and an ultra-wide-angle lens. With the use of mirrors in the periscope design, the telephoto lens can provide up to 10x optical zoom and 100x digital zoom. Moreover, the ultra-wide-angle lens can be equipped with macro and autofocus features for closer, more precise shots.

Like the Pro models, the ultra-wide-angle lens might also be capable of macro photography and autofocus. The 12-megapixel front-facing camera on all four iPhone 16 models is anticipated to come equipped with Face ID 2.0, a new feature that will allow for quicker and more precise facial recognition even when masks are worn or in low light.

3D recording for Vision Pro headset

Spatial video recording, on the other hand, is one of the most anticipated features that Apple is rumoured to bring with the iPhone 16 series. This feature will enable users to record immersive 3D videos that can be viewed on Apple’s much-discussed augmented reality device, the Vision Pro headset. The vertically oriented rear camera will be used for the spatial video recording, improving depth perception and producing better effects in portrait mode. All four models will support spatial video recording; however, the Pro models might offer options for higher resolution and frame rate.
