Industry analysts told CNBC that the much awaited PS5 Pro would finally arrive this year. Four years after the PS5’s original release, rumours suggest that a potent update will hit store shelves in the second half of 2024.
Experts surmise that the purpose of this possible launch plan is to rekindle customer interest in the system before to the release of GTA 6, the highly anticipated sixth installment of the Grand Theft Auto series, in 2025. Console sales have benefited from GTA releases in the past, and Sony may be trying to reap the benefits once more.
According to Serkan Toto, CEO of Tokyo-based gaming consultant Kantan Games, “there seems to be a broad consensus in the game industry that Sony is indeed preparing a launch of a PS5 Pro in the second half of 2024.” Toto made this statement to CNBC. “And with GTA VI launching in 2025, which will be a huge boost for the entire gaming industry, Sony will want to make sure they have a great piece of hardware ready.”
About Launching
Sony’s most recent financial report, which was made public on February 14, reduced PlayStation enthusiasts’ expectations. For the fiscal year that ends in March 2024, the business decreased its sales projection for the PS5 from 25 million units to 21 million units. Furthermore, a potential “gradual decline” in revenues going ahead was alluded to by an executive.
Sony SVP Naomi Matsuoka announced during the results call that the PS5 will move into its later life cycle, which runs from April 2024 to March 2025. Additionally, it was discovered through the records discovered during the Microsoft v. FTC case that Microsoft does not anticipate releasing a new Xbox or PlayStation until 2028.
In order to accommodate high-definition titles that are scheduled for release in the upcoming years, a PS5 Pro, a possible mid-generation upgrade for the current-generation console, may be necessary.Sony also declared that they would not release blockbuster sequels like God of War and Spider-Man until April 2025, therefore the possibility of the PS5 Pro arriving in the second half of 2024 does not seem all that surprising.
PlayStation 4 Pro
The original PlayStation 4 was released in 2013, followed by the PlayStation 4 Pro in 2016. The system supported 4K output and was a little more robust. That does make one wonder what the primary selling point of the PS5 would be. 4K TVs started to appear in mainstream homes with the release of the PS4 Pro, and they soon became the norm when the PS5 was released. Even though the PS5 Pro is a hypothetical device, its potential power over the base system remains unknown until Sony makes an official announcement.
Like the PS4 Pro, the PS5 Pro is reported to have improved internal components and potentially a new design. Consider it a PS5 Plus rather than a PS6, as it will most likely be an upgrade of the present PS5.
